Eden Sweeney is a multidisciplinary artist working across poetry, photography and digital drawing. Her practice incorporates performative elements through a recurring character, physically depicted as herself yet existing within fictional narratives.
Her work combines humour, irony, discomfort and vulnerability while exploring themes of obsession, sex and the mundane. She is interested in the tension between viewers pitying the character before recognising aspects of themselves in her. The bed is a recurring motif, reflecting her OCD-related rituals surrounding cleanliness, while embodying the duality of being both a deeply private and universally familiar space associated with memory, comfort, illness, loneliness and intimacy. Created primarily using the trackpad on her laptop, the hyper-detailed drawings are physically and mentally strenuous, while their repetitive process mirrors the obsessive rituals embedded within the subject matter.
Sweeney’s large scale prints reflect her time in the MA Print programme at the RCA. Shown as part of an installation alongside a handmade book of poems and photographs written from the characters perspective, viewers are provided a deeper context of her story, revealing the fantasies, longing and isolation that shape the character's imagined world.
Sweeney graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2019 and graduates from the RCA in September 2026.
