Fran Farrar is an Isle of Wight based artist printmaker exploring memory, ancestry and place through abstract copper etching, monotypes, paper manipulation and film. She uses a combination of traditional and exploratory printmaking methods to interpret intimate, emotional concepts. Fran uses abstracted imagery to recall genealogical placement, significant emotional memory points and personal historical connections.
Diarizing her own memories in conjunction with those of the natural and built environment, Fran forms a thought-provoking historic continuum. Her intimate, short edition prints, monotypes and sculptural paper works bring together environmental identity with familial connections. These personal works often refer to specific transporting, nostalgic recollections.
Fran’s current work includes contemplations in sculptural, site specific print using 3D manipulated paper which is filmed and edited to provide a record of the work’s existence in situ. She has a particular interest in the notion of ‘place holding time’. Her work looks at how memories remain in buildings and locations, suggesting glimpses of past lives and their connections to us today.
Fran received Arts Council England / National Lottery DYCP funding (2024/25). She exhibits nationally regularly and has work in private collections across the UK. Fran is an active member of the national Printmakers Council.
