Joanna Moore’s work is developed from observational studies and inspired by the vitality and constant change of the natural world. Drawing on her local birdwatching routines and experiences as a beekeeper, she explores the intricate details, rhythms and patterns that often go unnoticed.
Her practice combines monoprint with delicate additions in charcoal or pastel, balancing spontaneity with close observation. She embraces the unpredictability of monoprint, where each print reveals unique textures, marks and layers that cannot be repeated. Her compositions are rich with movement, echoing the energy of their subjects. Through subtle drawing, she enhances structure, detail and line, creating a dialogue between chance and control. This layered process reflects nature itself—organic, imperfect and ever evolving.
Moore completed the Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School in 2010, where she was awarded the Patron’s Prize, and her work is held in the Royal Collection. She has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Town House, Spitalfields, and Southwark Museum, as well as group exhibitions with the Royal Drawing School, Hampton Court House and the Richmond Art Society, where she was recently shortlisted for the Richmond Art Prize.
