Brigitte Parusel’s work explores the interaction between colour, light and form when a flat surface becomes a sculptural object.
Her folded works, made from paper or metal, can be wall-based or freestanding. They always invite the viewer to engage actively with each piece, experiencing how the artwork transforms when seen from different angles. They highlight that our experiences and interpretations are shaped by our individual points of view, which can shift dramatically when we change our perspective.
In the two screenprinted gradients submitted, Parusel explores what happens when an image stays on the surface versus when it moves off the plane and becomes a sculptural form. The unfolded gradient ‘Heating up 1’ implies depth through colour and form. Folding the paper in ‘Heating up 2’ changes how light meets the surface, inviting the viewer to observe subtle shifts in colour and the changing pattern depending on the viewpoint.
Brigitte Parusel is a member of the artist community of APT, London. In 2011, she graduated from Wimbledon College of Art with an MA in Fine Art.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, is held in private collections and is currently on display at the Royal Academy Summer Show.
