My work attempts to both document and protest conflict and inequality by showing the indiscriminate and inevitable consequences of the prioritisation of profit by both the individual and the state. In similarity to a photojournalists approach to these subjects, It aims to use the print of a single image recording situations of human devastation for history, rather than delivering immediate news. The modern aesthetics of the subjects depicted indicate the work represents an entirely current anxiety spurred by both geopolitical tension and in-equal wealth distribution by showing their byproducts. The precise location of my landscapes in print or paint is often ambiguous and could therefore be applied to multiple current or potential settings. The work aims to challenge complacency and inaction towards said subjects, by attempting to record their reality.
