Copper Plate Etching
Edition of
Dimensions (WxH): 39 x 53cm

Davies is interested in the labour involved in an artist’s practice; as with many artists, she has a full-time job, as well as making her own work. She is Head of Artist Development at SPACE Studios where she supports artists to make their work. In 2026 Davies completed a micro residency as part of ArtLab’s Women In Print programme, leading to Notes on Rest in Allan Bank, Grasmere. For the last 12 months she has developed her writing and drawing practice via a Time and Space residency at Metal Culture in Southend. During 2020, Karen began to write messages to herself during lockdown which resulted in the ongoing Notes to Self series. This process uncovered a new way of working and the acknowledgement of the often hidden text-based element of her practice. Notes to Self and Notes to Plants have been included in the Vitamin Txt: Words in Contemporary Art, published by Phaidon. She was recently interviewed by New York Times best-selling author James Gearing to be included in a book The World In A Phrase: A Brief History of the Aphorism. Davies is a graduate from CHelsea College of Art (MA Fine Art) and Newcastle University (BA Fine Art).
