Swan explores everyday objects as symbols of modern restlessness and isolation. He contrasts these objects with places representing belonging, peace, and security. Both reflect the dichotomy of restlessness and yearning for soul rest. His work invites viewers to reflect on this contrast.
Swan’s recent series of prints comes from his ongoing relief printmaking journey, which started five years ago. He continues to explore wood engraving and woodcut methods. The images are personal reflections on universal themes of modern life. His goal is to leave viewers hopeful about the existence of a true place of ultimate rest.
Swan graduated from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 1996 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Since 1992, he has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows, including the Royal Academy Summer Show in 2018. His work has been shown locally and internationally in Europe, Asia, and the United States.
