Anna Marris is an artist and researcher based in the Solent. Her practice is grounded in image-making in print and explores the intersection of art, science, and ecology.
Some of her recent work manifested an arts and ecology residency hosted by GroundWork Gallery in Norfolk. Her etching ‘Discoveries in the earth’ captures a disused topsoil screener located beside an active quarry in the Norfolk landscape. She was drawn to the immense size and structure of this machinery and how it inadvertently revealed an abundance of Ice Age remnants that were hidden deep beneath the soil. Marris worked intricately with etching and aquatint to translate the complex forms and textures of the rusted framework.
Marris studied BA Fine Art at Winchester School of Art followed by a 2-year MA in Print at the Royal College of Art, London. Since graduating, Marris has continued developing her practice through regular exhibitions and creative workshops, collaboration within artist collectives, and independent research in artist residencies. In the past year, Marris exhibited her work widely, including Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair and Bankside Gallery in London, Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery in Wales, and The Old Sail Loft in Southampton.
