Hiroyuki Iwashita is a Japanese digital artist creating works that materialise as paper prints and 3D-printed sculptures. His practice explores visualising a parallel world through surreal architectural scenes, seeking resonances hidden in the existing urban landscape. Growing up in Japan's relentless cycle of scrap and build, where cities are continually reshaped by rationality and commercialism, he became intrigued by creating new urban forms from the existing city. His work offers viewers a temporary escape from the monotony of everyday life, inviting a renewed perspective on the existing urban landscape.
His recent works use digital collage to reconstruct overlooked architectural fragments extracted from city photographs. Through scaling, repetition and recombination, these fragments form imagined cityscapes that evoke a sense of new order and function for the city consisting of existing building pieces.
He holds an MArch in Architectural Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. He was awarded a prize in the Fukuoka Wall Art Project (2024), organised by Fukuoka city, Japan. His work has been exhibited at Art Fair Asia Fukuoka 2024, the Summer Exhibition 2025 at the Royal Academy of Arts, and Peter Cook: Art of Architecture (Digital Responses to Peter Cook’s Drawing) at HENI Gallery (2026).
