Benjamin Topping | Caerphilly Walls

£250.00
Etching And Aquatint
Edition of 35
Dimensions (WxH): 43 x 37cm

Ben Topping is a London based artist, specialising in etching. His practice explores the temporality of ruins embedded in the natural landscape. The journey and destruction of the metal plate is integral to Topping’s representation of these landscapes; the plate itself becomes a ruin. Topping merges and experiments across intaglio techniques, developing his plates over many states to challenge etching as a form of storytelling to reveal the histories and legacies of the sites he is immersed in, and speculate on their futures in an ever-changing landscape. His most recent series of work attends to elements of the South Wales landscape, from the brutalist disused mining infrastructure at Trefil to the romantic ruins at Caerphilly Castle. Topping is a Print Fellow and specialist etching tutor for the adult evening course at City and Guilds of London Art School. He studied BA Fine Art at Winchester School of Art followed by a Masters degree in Fine Art at City and Guilds of London Art School. Topping has recently exhibited work at ‘Small but Mighty’ at Bankside Gallery, ‘Juxtapose Art Prize’ at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery, and ‘Out’ at Unit 2 gallery in St-Leonards-on-Sea.
