Callum Russell's work explores the relationship between people and their environment, often in an urban setting.
Observing life in a metropolis and the interactions between a city and it's citizens his work engages with the psychogeographical binds of modern life.
Depictions of small figures overpowered by the geometric imposition of architecture and the visual noise of sprawling cities, his works seek to find moments of calm within the chaos of the structures around us.
Through monochrome linocuts he flattens the experience of a bustling city and reflects on our place within it's ecosystem.
Russell studied illustration at Falmouth University graduating in 2012 and Contemporary Art Practice at Edinburgh College of Art in 2017.
He has exhibited widely across the UK in group exhibitions and solo shows. Highlights include the Society of Wood Engravers annual exhibitions 2026 & 2025, RE Printmakers Small but Mighty 2025, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2024, Ironbridge Fine Art's Printmakers 2024, Scottish Landscape Awards 2023 and Glasgow Print Fair 2026, 2024 and 2022.
