Silke Heuer | Bouquet

£450.00
Etching
Edition of 30
Dimensions (WxH): 68 x 91cm

Silke Heuer is a printmaker who predominately works with traditional etching techniques on large format steel plates. She layers and combines multiple plates to create an image, interested in the tension between different types and quality of marks. The metal plate becomes a playing field where force and restraint, intention and chance are negotiated. The gestural marks and textured surfaces are a contradiction of intense energy and calmer moments, the whole could be described as 'containing the chaos'. The physical labour and engagement with the materials, tools and processes are an important aspect in her work and become explicit in the print itself. The plate is not simply a means of reproduction but a surface that bears the memory of making.
