Emma Jackson's practice explores the tension between our physical insignificance within the vastness of the universe and the immensity of our inner worlds. Through processes of translation, fragmentation and reconstruction, she investigates what remains when images begin to lose certainty. Recent work explores memory, absence, loss and nostalgia as ways of navigating that broader enquiry.
Through acts of reduction, displacement and repetition, familiar imagery is loosened from its original context until it exists between recognition and abstraction. Rather than describing a specific place, memory or narrative, her works invite viewers to inhabit a space where meaning is provisional, emerging through proximity, absence and sustained looking.
Printmaking lies at the heart of Jackson's practice. Its inherent processes of translation, repetition and material transformation shape both her thinking and the work itself.
