Elizabeth Roberts’ work investigates transformative moments intrinsic to printmaking, performance, and painting.
Through her painterly manipulation of viscous ink, Roberts synthesises her contemporary performing arts experience with her love of observational drawing. She expands her practice into realms between fantasy and the actual. Printmaking involves intense pressure to embed unpredictable inky marks into paper, which for Roberts, simulates the collaborative and playful atmosphere of live theatre and performance.
Thinking through printmaking helps Roberts conceptualise physical and emotional tensions between moving bodies in groups, and the agency experienced by individuals moving through environments in space and time. The works shown here imaginatively translate into visual form, the internal emotions used by individual performers as source material during their engagement with an audience. Roberts’ unique monotypes and etchings reflect this individuality and depth of expression.
Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2025 with an MA in Fine Art Printmaking, Roberts was supported by the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship.
She was selected for The Graduate Art Show at the Vanner Gallery, Salisbury UK in 2025, and her work has appeared in juried group exhibitions in Australia, the UK and the USA.
