Inkjet On Ceramic Tile
Edition of
Dimensions (WxH): 30 x 10cm

Alistair Gibbs (UK, b. 1972) works with images of words, and the images that words create, often exploring the space opened up by multiple possible readings. Gibbs' practice is rooted in his background in luxury fashion branding and as a musician working with sampling technology; using found material and techniques borrowed from the commercial world is central to his practice. He favours words that invite more than one reading, employing inversions of familiar phrases and images to encourage the viewer to read, and re-read — to rethink. Language, he says, is the medium by which we misunderstand each other. His recent work uses an industrial handheld inkjet printer to apply phrases directly to ceramic tile. Gibbs' earlier prints have been available through Jealous Gallery, London, and his street photography project 'Surprise Party Every Week' was published as a photobook in 2016.
