J.J. Hellerman (b. 2000, Sharon, Connecticut, USA) lives and works between London and New York. She studied Government and Classical Languages at Georgetown University before completing a Graduate Diploma (2024) and MA Print (2025) at the Royal College of Art. Hellerman works within the field of expanded print, creating sculptural apparata which function as display systems for imagery and information printed on translucent substrates and digital screens. Combining casting, etching and 3D fabrication with networked screens, self-written scrapers and corrupted digital media, she traces the technologies of the archive from the codex and the printing press to social media algorithms, AI and the blockchain, shifting attention from the content of an image to the forms which carry it. Her recent works encase harvested Instagram Reels in bronze and pewter reliquaries and invite viewers to handle the archive directly, asking what a culture chooses to keep, and how systems of distribution shape its worship.
