Tushka (Chrissy Mouncey) is a contemporary artist based in North Devon. She studied Fine Art at Plymouth University followed by a Foundation in Graphic Design at UAL, London, supplemented by professional development print-making at Spike Print Studio, Bristol.
Through a focus on seascapes and landscapes as familiar and recognisable access points, she draws on light, colour, movement and a representation of the senses being stimulated, exploring transient feelings of wonder and awe subconsciously experienced in the natural world. Tushka’s main focus is to create a sense of permanence to passing moments. She is endeavouring to hold onto the uplift stimulated by small moments she witnesses to be able to revisit the emotional connection to these experiences and share the sense of positivity and hope that they give her.
Layering light, water, movement, reflection, contrast, shadow, mark-making and colour Tushka builds up her artwork which often evolves from painted sketches or charcoal drawings. The final pieces, which are typically mono printed screen prints are celebrations of the layering of colour and mark-making that forms the screen printing process so the layers of experience, sensation and colour become a literal element of her artworks.
