AJ (1987) is a South African printmaker, educator, and artist based in the Netherlands. With nearly two decades of professional experience, her career has spanned high school teaching, university lecturing, printmaking workshops, artist mentoring, tattooing, graphic design, and an independent studio practice. She holds a Master of Visual Art, specialising in screenprint and researching the use of AI as a creative tool for contemporary printmakers. Her multidisciplinary practice includes drawing, painting, collage, writing, and a broad range of printmaking techniques, with screenprint remaining her primary medium. She has exhibited and curated extensively in South Africa and internationally, and her work is held in private collections around the world. In 2016, she co-founded The Printing Girls alongside Cloudia Rivett-Carnac. Together they have grown the organisation from a small group of six artists into a thriving community of more than 160 predominantly South African female printmakers. AJ is also a single mother to a five-year-old son. She creates every day, driven by an enduring curiosity and a deep awareness that there will never be enough time to bring every idea to life.
