Issie Martin is a multidisciplinary artist working across printmaking, film and sculpture. Her work is centred around the bodies of water who surround, seep into, and live beneath the land.
Her recent collection of etchings imagine speculative ways of living within flood, considering porous architectures, local abundance of materials and absurd tools.
Site and the uncertainty of flood risk for her home on the East Kent coast (UK), inform poetic writing grappling with notions of the futile and methods of weathering in a time of ecological crisis. The figures within her etchings, such as the Seaweed Mop and The Chalk Bucket, nod to remnants of coastal culture, echoes of sea shanties and experiments with foraged materials.
Issie is currently studying on the MA Art & Ecology course at Goldsmiths University and graduated from Loughborough University with a 1st Class BA (Hons) Fine Art, with a year studying abroad in Teruel at the Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain.
Recent exhibitions include Futile Acts, Modern Painters New Decorators (Loughborough), Conflicted, Phoenix Cinema (Leicester), and features in publications by a-n, No Jobs In The Arts and Ambient Receiver.
