Alison Lutz is an artist based in Portland, Oregon, USA. In her current body of work, Overflowing Dreams (2026-present), Lutz uses the immediacy of monotype printmaking to create a living record of the growth, joy, and meaning that can be found following tragedy. Using personal snapshots as reference material, these monotypes investigate the expressive powers of mark, texture, color, and transparency through images of flora and fauna within mystical landscapes. She is inspired by potentialities and fate, in touch with and in awe of the mysteries of life, with symbols of loss and hope throughout the work. Lutz finds Rainer Maria Rilke's concept of "the Whole" pertinent to the core themes of her work. Lutz graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in 2011 with a Master of Fine Art in Drawing. Her work has been exhibited widely in the Pacific Northwest of the US and her ATTENDANT LOSS (2020-2025) series was presented in two solo exhibitions: at the AB Gallery at Portland State University in 2023 and at the Forsberg Art Gallery at Lower Columbia College in 2025.
