‘Floating’ is a series of metal panels and paper based prints that aim to give time and space for thought. Symbolic landscape details, patterns or motifs become phrases, which are assembled into personal narratives that look at both the smaller and bigger picture. Familiar landscape elements are taken out of context; motifs are isolated from the everyday. Overlaid patterns create order and disorder. The imagery shapes a tentative response to experiences of joy and sadness. With a background in sculpture, Catherine now works with patination, screen printing and woodcut onto metal or paper. Her practice has a multi process approach, open to and valuing chance occurrences.
